  • Magothy Pickerel Hunting

I fished a side creek on the Magothy today, 12-28-13, noon to 3:00pm. Essentially, I got totally skunked!!! Although I did eventually hook one lonely pickerel that thru the hook about 6’ from the canoe, maybe 17” long. Conditions were very good too. Water clarity ~3’-4’, tide nice and high, a lot of down trees were flooded, water temps ~43F. However, the back 1/3rd of the creek was covered by ¼”+ of skim ice. I used 2” to 4” soft plastics. As I launched my hopes were high. But I fished hard and long with nothing to show for my efforts.

At least you felt the weight of a pickerel on your line and saw it too.

I think that's pretty good given the presence of ice.
