Got the new yak (and my first yak) a couple of weeks ago and have been itching to get it on the water. Finally got a chance! Dropped in on Stoney Creek, on Saturday 3/8/14, with expectations of greatness (like every other yak owner). Well, let's just say that all my hooks are in perfect shape still! Not a bite. But I can't tell you how valuable the experience was. I think that the Lord was protecting me, because I am not sure what I would have done if even a sunny took the bait. I felt liked I had never fished before. I am sure many people would have gotten a good laugh. From learning to get in, launching off the beach, paddling, casting, maneuvering, tying tackle, and beaching, I could have sold more tickets than the comedy barn. But by the end of the 3 hours on the water the comfort levels were starting to increase.
Well, I did not let that first skunking turn me off to the yak whatsoever. I returned to the water on Monday, 3/10/14. This time I launched out of Furnace Creek. As a matter of fact I never left Furnace creek. It didn't take long to find the schools of shad. My Rat-L-Trap was consistently snagging them on the bottom. I was sure the Rock Fish couldn't be far behind. It wasn't but a few casts later that My suspicions were confirmed. I hooked my first fish from a yak.

Not a monster by any stretch of the imagination, but still had a buddy take a picture. He measured in at 18". I thought the action would start to heat up, but despite snagging a few shad no more striper. Thoroughly enjoyed myself though, and can't wait to get out there again.
