  • Mattawoman- First post

    Hello to all,
I am new to this board, I just got a kayak which I would like to start using. I usually fish out of the 18ft jon boat but would like to be more stealthy in the hunt for specks and reds this year. I would like to fish mattawoman to get some practice in my kayak, I have fished it many times and am familiar with it. I would just like some info on how soon the fishing gets going there, if someone could let me know when they started doing well there last year would be helpful.

Well, last year and this year will really have no comparison...
But you should ve able to atleast get into some catfish there now, if you're into that. Some bass could probably be had now as well but may be still a little slow.

End of April or beginning of May.

You should be able to find bass on a warm day, the yellow perch run to the upper parts, crappie should be pretty active in there on a warm day. I may try and make it down there out of slavins this weekend. But who knows.

Thanks for all the info from all who replied, I have been fishing the Potomac in the past two months around the fort Washington area. The blue cat bite is going on as usual do to the great numbers. There was a good crappie bite a month ago but that quickly died off. Jaspratt let me know how you do if you get a chance to go out of slavins. I am interested in the bass and snakehead bite there.
