  • Mattawoman 3/29

Fished Mattawoman from dark to dark Saturday looking for crappies, bass and cats generally in that order. Wet wet wet but the wind stayed calm until the end of the day so it was actually kinda nice. Launched at Slavins and worked both upstream and downstream. Pretty slow. Managed 3 bass, a crappie and 2 blue cats up by the barge in the morning. Bass and crappie came on small soft plastics and a lipless crank while the cats came on cut bait. Missed / lost a few other cats in various deeper but the cats didn't really seem to be stacked up in the creek yet. Marked some pretty good schools of what I expect were crappies in some of the deeper holes north of slavins but couldn't buy any love. Some gentlemen fishing from shore just north of Slavin's were picking up a few small white perch. Nice day on the water.

Nice! Way to brave the crappy weather.

I miss Mattawoman. I should pay her a visit. I bet she will start really heating up soon.

I think you are right. If the water temps bump up just a bit and visibility increases a hair things should start cooking. There was maybe 6 inches of visibility on Saturday with lots of floating debris.

Good job! That's putting in the time on the water. Can't catch them sitting at home. What size blue cats frequent Mattawoman? I have caught some small blues while bass fishing but outside of the last Meet and Greet, I've never targeted blue cats before.
