My reaction to this thread in chronological order:

    1. Dude, you can fish for Sturgeon right now! I was wondering what to target next week! Better get to BPS tonight!
    2. Oh... not cool. They are illegal! What is he thinking!
    3. Hmmm it is April 1st, maybe a joke?
    4. Bald eagle wings. I am a dumass.

      Nitefly,

I never got past number 2 on your list until it was too late!

Frankly the only reason I knew immediately that they were prohibited catches is that I know a former MD DNR employee who was deeply involved in their preservation.

Technically, aren't we also not allowed to bait with live eels here in MD?

that is all part of the joke I assume.......a very clever little fib....like adding March 30 as date of post even though it was clearly sent on April #1

I forgot to add that they also stumbled upon a nice school of 10"-12" stripers. They worked great as bait once they ran out of live eels.

OK, the whole things was very funny. I did actully LOL when I read the last part, using small rockfish after running out of eels. Very good!

Reminds me of a duck hunting trip down in Back Bay...we were sitting in our rented blind...had just been checked by federal wildlife agents...and they really check everything...plugged gun, non lead shot, license, etc. anyway the next blind over to our right hunters started booming away and right out front of our blind one duck they hit splashed...my Brittany Spaniel jumped out of the blind and retrieved the canvasback duck the hunters had shot...needless to say I went home one lead decoy weight less than I had when we started...
