  • Comedy Hour at Deer Creek

You see the darnedest things sometimes. I fished deer creek today and so did a dozen or two others, many of which were a bunch of knuckleheads.
I saw guys fishing with huge surf rods,
a couple of mexicans keeping fish,
someone casting and letting their shad darts sit on the bottom like it was bait,
a guy bottom fishing with a night crawler which was the wrong thing to do while every one was casting darts...led to a bunch of tangles.
someone getting snagged and then reeled continuously trying to get it out which only would lead to an insane amount of line twist.
a boat flying at high speed down the susky in front of a bunch of fisherman...I hope they know where the rocks are.

I'll tell ya, I could have just stayed and watched the insanity without fishing. Shad are there, pretty big ones too. After about an hour and a half I had about 6 fish. So not hot and heavy but there were spurts of activity.

The amazing thing is that people will act like it's the coolest thing in the world when they catch fish there??? I guess it's all for the best - the idiots could be shoulder-to-shoulder crowding my fishing spots,..

Regardless, nice that you got out and saw the spectacle of over-crowded fishing for yourself. Good day for it I suppose. My favorite part is just seeing the fish in the river/creek in clear water.

Welcome to the wonderful world of "combat" fishing.
As bad as Deer Creek at the confluence can be, try Fisherman's Park below the dam on a Sunday afternoon.
Between the Shad fisherman, the guys targeting Stripers (we're fishing for Walleyes), the Russian mob from New Jersey slinging 8 oz. of lead over every bodies heads filling footlockers with Carp (This is America. I fish where and how ever I like!), the guys live baiting for Flathead Catfish and many other members of the legions of the great unwashed hordes……….all crowded into a 50 yard stretch of river.
Shows the difference between fisherman, and idiots fishing.
Seen too many fistfights, threats etc. I'm getting too old for that crap.
A whole new perspective on humanity!
Oughta be a reality TV show made about it and played on the Discovery Network. Might rival the Deadliest Catch! Or Alaska Fish Wars.
      Conowingo Carnage!

P.S. Opening day on the Bay isn't much better, just spread out more!

I have to agree with bignose, it's a rough crew at Fisherman's park! Seems like the anglers at Deer Creek are a bit more humane.

I get a good laugh too @ both locations......and I'm sure others are laughing @ me too, but when I pull one in I get the last laugh.

I fished at Fisherman's Park once. It was a complete cluster. The fish were there but no amount of fish is worth putting up with that mess of idiots. 35 guys standing shoulder to shoulder, casting in synchronized order. What could possibly go wrong?! Deer Creek sounds equally entertaining.
