  • My first Severn perch this year -- just barely

Since late April I have tried casting almost every week to the shallow water shoreline spots where perch normally reside all summer. Until this morning, I had zero bites. I fished in Weems Creek for 90 minutes this morning and finally caught my first Severn perch of the year -- a scrawny 8" fish. The perch bit a Woody's feather jig. I had two other nibbles, but that was my only caught perch so far. They are at least three weeks behind their normal patterns for moving into the shallow areas.

The horned pondweed that frustrated me earlier in the week is still there in many spots.
