My first Maryland spec of the year

Mark and I fished at Pt Lookout this afternoon. The wind was blowing hard from the south. The bay and Potomac River were both rough. We decided to stay inside Lake Conoy. Conditions looked good, but the fish never got the message. In 3.5 hours of trolling light tackle and casting to fishy-looking shorelines, I caught just one fish -- a 10" spec. It hit a small X-Rap in 3.5 ft water depth.

After hooking that little fish, I circled back through the same area repeatedly hoping that a school of them was in the vicinity. I never found any more. At the very end of the trip, I had a strong knockdown and drag puller. It was a ray. I broke off the lure quickly.

We are spending the night in Lexington Park and will fish with Walleye Pete tomorrow.

Thanks for the report, beautiful day for fishing..(except for the wind). Rode over Bay Bridge today on way home from a lacrosse tournament and saw how choppy the bay was. Good luck tomorrow!!

Hang in there! My buddy has caught a couple respectable specs and 2 puppy drum not far from there. I plan to give it a try next weekend.
