  • Rt 50 Bridge, OC 6/15

Fished the Rt 50 bridge from about 1300-2000 from the outgoing through the slack until the incoming. The fishing was so so but I did get a good seat for the air show. Fished for flounder till around 1800 without any luck then decided to flip some rocks for crabs and started looking for tog. Found a few holes around a point and immediately got bit, swing and a miss but managed my first tog ever just a few minutes later. A little shy of 15 inches. Continued to work the area and managed another 5 tog before the tide started ripping in making holding position impossible. All shorts but still fun. Fyi, the rays are in thick, busted 4 off and saw dozens of them packed in behind the bridge pilings.

Looks nice and somewhat calm there. Nice work on the togs. I plan on being down there in July and will try my luck for flounder hopefully the tide isn't ripping through the bridge.

I'll bet that was a fun day with the air show and catching fish....
On a side note... I was watching the inlet webcam on Saturday for a while and saw this fellow out.
Competition for the camera position kept me from watching very long to see if he caught anything.
But it certainly was a good weekend to be on the water....

That looks like a pretty good fishing trip and a great way to spend a vacation day!

Nice going chimo. I was there on Friday, but did not think of going for tog.

That fellow is our very own Tufnik! Here he is fighting one of those rays on Friday.

I did manage to get a few flounder, including a barely keeper (almost 2... a bigger one got off at the boat), and a bluefish. All on gulp.

They were practicing for the air show on Friday, and it was fun to watch.

Nice work! I was walking across the Rt. 50 bridge not too long ago and could see schools of rays just cruising around behind the pilings. Cool to watch but certainly not what I want to see when fishing!

If the tide gets ripping at the bridge, and you can't hold position, try heading over to the drawbridge area. The concrete and wood walls along the east channel provide a nice break you can hang out in and still catch tog.
