  • Bay Bridge 6/22/14

Had a pretty good day on Sunday after being skunked at the Bay Bridge the last two weekends. Fished the east side this time. Had the pleasure of meeting Steve and Brian (Ride 135's) before launch and Steve had lots of good advice. Thanks, Steve. Started paddling towards the bridge about 6:15AM. 19 total with three nice keepers (22.5", 24", 18"). Marked big schools of 14-16" stripers around the pilings. From 9:30AM to about 10:30AM, I had a schoolie bite on every cast with a jerkbait. I must say that a 15" striper puts up a great fight on spinning tackle. As much fun fishing as I've had this year. Trolling on the way back, something big hit my X-rap and my drag started screaming. After lots of head shaking and drag screaming later, it broke off at the knot. Gotta wonder what that was. Need to learn to tie a better fluorocarbon knot. Here are pics of the two best on the day:

Nice job. Gives me hope for Friday. Dunno if I wanna Pedal all the way to the east side though. Remember the pillar number that was active?

Southern span. Strong outgoing current. Lower #40's pilings all had fish on them. Boats were catching them too so I'm sure the word is out.

Caught them down current from the pilings as well. So you don't have to fish that tight to the pilings.

Just a note, the 'keepers' were actually released.

Great work John. That is definitely one of the few good Bay Bridge reports recently.

How's it to launch there? I'm spoiled from when we used to be able to launch from bay bridge Marina... that was so convenient! not allowed anymore though...

It's about a 1/2 mi walk and another 25 yds of sand. Not too bad but a kayak cart is definitely required...at least for me. You have to buy a Queen Anne's beach permit also.

I saw the marina on the map. That must have been nice.

                              Nice catch John.

I haven't gotten up the nerve to try the Bay Bridge yet, but you make it look like its worth it.
