  • Centennial Lake, Columbia, MD report. Saturday June 21, 2014

Without access to a kayak, I fished from shore. Roughly 4:30PM to about 8PM. I looped from around the boat rental house and around the east end of the lake, covering about half the total shoreline. I fished any spot with thick overhanging brush and logs/ lily pads. I tried a crank bait for a while with no luck. After switching to a greenish blackish Yamamoto worm , wacky rigged (hook in the middle of the worm), I managed to pull out 2 little largemouths (see red stars in pic below). Not bad, but having access to a boat would be a major advantage at this location. I'm pretty sure that there are bass in every spot with a combonation of clear water, overhead coverage, and hiding spots underwater. They seem to like worms just sinking slowly near their hiding spots.
Also, there are about a billion blue gill. If you have little kids and just want them to get fish, hit the spots I circled. Rig 1 or 2 split shot about 8" up from a tiny hook with a little blood worm. Basic bottom rig. This should yield an unlimited stream of little fish.

Have any of you had any luck or tips for this spot?

I haven't hit Centennial yet this year. In the past I've caught bass there on soft plastic worms fished with circle hooks. I've always gone in the summer and fished near the edges of weeds/pads.
