I did a lil casting for sh & had some hits....one smacked a topwater popper frog then it jumped 4 feet straight up in the air( just like trout & hickory shad) then it banged its head heavy-metal- style & hocked my frog back at me! Whilst making random casts another did the torpedo follow then pulled under my bait,
Pulling me along with it. It shook off at the side of my Wavewalk 500 kayak. A few mins later I saw a baitball, then an explosion. I cast right away there(I love that Nanofil 10lb test), and wham! It's On!! Then it's not on.... It's off! I paddle near the baitball, sit quietly, then I see mom & dad snakehead. I position myself so the wind will drift me near and I can see w/o a glare on the surface of the water. I stand and ready my bow.... Missing twice but the 3 rd time i find my target! This is my 1st snakehead via bowfishing.
It measures 27" and it's heavy.
On friday I launched the Wavewalk to calm waters. After not seeing any sh & getting tired from casting I stood up & got my bow ready. I see my 1st sh of the day at the end of a left-to-right panoramic search. I lay down my paddle quietly, pull back my arrow and fire. 1st shot of the day hits its target!! All that target practice on land the day before yielded on the water results. This one measures 31", which is a PB for me! I would see a few more but the shot wasnt a good one so I didn't take it. I saw little ones too.... Less than 12", and a few big ones. The water was clear in places and I could see lots of cats & LM bass & yellow perch. I caught a few bass on the rod but no more snakeheads. They are out there but it's harder to catch them this year. I have big filets from these fish and they will be eaten this week.
