  • Mattawoman 7/6 Report

First time fishing Mattawoman after all these years. Bit of a haul from No VA but was up for a new adventure. Launched out of Slavins early at low tide. Had a couple of largemouths in first hour not too far from the launch in the grasses across heading up the creek. Kept working up the creek along grass edge but only picked up another one and lost a couple. No SHs. All 15-17" caught on Senko green pumpkin. Nothing went for the zoom horny frog, 4" pearl ripple mullet, or crank bait. Nice day, little windy, and fishy areas. Worth coming back to explore again.

Bert- Water clarity was good compared to when I have fished the VA side of the Potomac this year. Would guess you could see your lure down about a foot below the surface. First time at Mattawoman so am not sure what is typical as I've heard this is one of the clearest waters in the area. When returning back to VA could see the brown wind whipped Potomac . Enjoy your posts

              Nice! Beautiful creek isn't it.

I have seen 0-clarity muddy waters and super-clear waters there, so it depends.

I've caught LMB, sunfish, white and yellow perch, gar, crappie and blue cats at Mattawoman... but never a snakehead.

Definitely my favorite fresh water destination.
