  • Anyone fishing on Sunday?

Sandy point or somewhere in that area is calling me. Anyone want to fish tomorrow, Sunday, July 13? If not is the usual Monday group going out?

        Peggy -

I have been out of town for nearly two weeks and am eager to get back on the water. I am thinking of spending Monday morning in a relaxing light and ultralight tackle trolling trip from Jonas Green to the mouth of the Severn looking for perch, stripers, and bluefish. I made this trip two summers ago in mid-day when the temps were over 90 deg. I was ovewhelmed with perch that day and could not keep up with 4 lines in the water most of the time (i.e., nonstop bite). I have no way of knowing whether the fish will be as cooperative tomorrow.

The technique involves trolling slowly with two ultralight rods armed with small spinners (Bignose, Woody, etc) and two light (or med-light) rods armed with jigheads and small paddletails (Fat Sam mullets) or Gulps (3" or 4" swimming mullet style). This gear is considerably lighter than what we used during May when we caught the larger stripers (those fish are most likely not in the river now). The spinners attract perch and small stripers, and the paddletails attract larger perch and medium stripers (hopefully). Much of the trolling will be along the shorelines in water less than 5' deep.

I don't know for sure when I will launch - probably between 7:00 and 8:00 am. If you or any others are interested, please let me know or just join me on the water.

I'm ready to get back on the Bay! I was thinking of bottom fishing with my daughter, but this has my attention now. Wind is predicted to be out of the south, will that be an issue?

Saw a red tandem yak having a good time fishing just outside SPSP this afternoon. Unfortunately, I saw it while sitting in traffic on the bridge.

I'm going to be there. If Cowkid2 is ready to fish in the morning, she'll be on the nose of my kayak.

Sorry for the late note. I got home very late from an afternoon/evening fishing trip today. The rain tonight caught me by surprise. There is also a chance of thunderstorms tomorrow morning. I will wait until morning to evaluate whether this trip makes sense. In any case, I am unlikely to launch prior to 8:00 am tomorrow. I'm sorry to be vague -- those of you who still want to go should make your own decisions about the weather and launch at your preferred time. Assuming I do launch, I will work downstream on the northern shoreline of the river staying close to shore.

I hope the weather allows us to get out there.
