  • Love Point 8/4

Fished the Love PT area from 6:45-8:30, the tide was low and pretty much slack. Started out trolling in 20ft with a bucktail/paddle tail and a pink spoon. Only bite was from a bluefish and it took the tail off my plastic. After half an hour of trolling I noticed birds working the surface closer to shore. Quickly paddled over and it was on. First cast resulted in an 18 in. striper on the pink spoon. I continued to catch a few more similar sized stripers before they calmed down and moved. I saw a few breaking fish nearby and ended up catching a small bluefish which put up quite the fight. After the blue I caught a 22in. channel catfish which I was not expecting. Right after the stripers began blitzing on the surface in shallow water again, and I caught more than I could count. During the blitz I had left the bucktail/paddle tail in the water with the rod in a holder, and caught 8 stripers on that most being doubles while I already had a fish on the spoon. I would estimate the total count of fish to be 30+, it was an epic trip to say the least. Most of the fish were between 18-20in. with a few shorts and the biggest being 24. All fish were caught in 3-12ft of water.

Went back out at Love PT to tonight and had a similar experience. Not quite as good as last nights trip but between the three of us that were out there we caught at least 50 fish. Mostly short stripers with a few bluefish and one channel catfish. I ended up casting a topwater Heddon Zara spook and catching multiple striper which is always fun.

Love Point and the Narrows seen to be the hot areas now. Breaking fish are great fun too!

In the Narrows report posted by John Veil, Mark caught a 21" channel cat as well. Let's hope they don't eat all the smaller bunker, perch, spot etc. I think the DNR folks are worried about the cats.

Is everyone starting to see breaking fish near shore these days? I can't wait to get out and follow some birds!
“Fish," he said softly, aloud, "I'll stay with you until I am dead.”
