Decided to hit the bay today for some bottom fishing. I took the torque today. I launched out of SPSP this morning shortly before 7am. With the winds calm, the conditions were perfect out there. Outgoing tide just began to run when I launched.
I headed south a couple of miles and began bottom fishing. At my first drop, I landed a couple of average/small perch. I moved on and found a mother load of jumbo spot. I was using my light action rod, so it was fun fishing. The spot provided non-stop action for the morning. Mixed in were a few croakers and a few more white perch. I drifted over the same area throughout the morning until I had enough table fare. Bloodworm was the hot ticket. The spot were of the 8"-10" class of fish. There was some surface action around me as well, but I had no takers on the lures I tossed.
Later in the morning, I headed west and fished various spans of rip rap. Pretty much caught a perch on every cast. This routine was broken when I hooked into a mid-upper teens rockfish. I got him to the side of the yak where he spit the lure. (Lure of choice was my personal favorite... Mepps Comet Minnow)
It was a great day on the water. It was weird being out there by myself. I realize that I rarely venture out solo.
