  • No Keeper Specks in Back River - Sep 14, 2014

On Sunday, the wind was too much for CBBT. I decided to explorer Back River for Specks. Fished 9 hours and caught 7 Specks @12". Only one guy caught a 18 incher.
In the evening when I was leaving, anglers (kayaks and boats) started showing up. The reasons? The specks bite in the evening and night. It had been bad during daytime I heard.
I saw them lining up in the middle bar (where the stilt shed for bird hunting.
One day, I will try at night after CBBT

Seems like that shed area is the go-to place to catch fish. I caught an 18" speck near that shed casting a rat-L-trap, yeah, two years ago. Thanks for the report.

Yeah, I didn't see any ducks. So, that makes me blind at the time.

            Thank you.
Somehow I couldn't remember the words "dock blind" that time.
Anyway, I fished 2 hours between 09:30 PM and 11:30 PM last Saturday before heading to HRBT then CBBT. I didn't get a hit. First I couldn't find the duck blind because of it was very dark. Secondly I was almost killed by thousands of mosquitoes.
I will not try again in the evening/night until the air temp drops (too cold for mosquitoes)

I don't really fish for them myself, but a few old timers I know here that are dedicated speck fisherman say the magic times to catch them are when the sun is coming up.....be on the water before it starts to rise.. and when it's going down

That may be true, but the one I caught last Friday was in the middle of the afternoon, around 2:30pm.
