It may be a touch early for spades, but they are worth looking for. They are catching them at Chesapeake Light Tower (offshore), but they are catching sheepshead for sure. Fiddler crabs or mole crabs (commonly called sand fleas) fished on the pilings will work. Flounder are there. Big reds usually do not show up (consistently) around the CBBT until mid-August, but smaller puppy drum are very possible. Cobia are also around. Keep an eye out on the pilings. Sometimes you'll see them hanging around them and willing to take a casted bucktail.

    Good luck!

This is great info. I'd love to see one of these for CHSP and OC as well!

I guess this is the closest interpretive buoy to get a turbididity reading

This is another place I go to for bait sometimes. They usually have fiddlers and some live bait fish. Open early.
