I jigged a bucktail/Gulp mullet rig and hung frozen shrimp. Caught a lot of fish:
5 puppy drums (13-17”)
2 togs (14-15”)
2 black sea bass (10-11”)
1 black drum
3 specks
2 weakfish
1 dink striper
1 blue
… all shorts. Oh, and a lot of toads too.
I also spoke to three other yakers; they caught one keeper tog and one keeper PD.
Highlight was after 3 pm on an outgoing tide. I was jigging a bucktail along the 1st SBC and hooked up with a freight train (bull red). I lost it after it straightened out my cheap bucktail after a few minutes of hard pullage.
I bent the bucktail back with a pair of pliers and jigged again. With 10 minutes, I got another big hook-up. Fought it about 10 minutes before it wrapped the braid around the piling and broke the line. Oh, well….
…it was a very nice day to fish.
