Bull Reds Fishing Compilation at CBBT in September, 2017

September is the time for bull redfish fishing at CBBT (Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel), VA. I think bull redfish are available until the mid-October usually.
The majority of the fishermen specifically/strictly target the bull redfish only in September. But there are very few hook them as bycatch while fishing for other species, such as flounder. A few of us (Tufnik, HikieDJ, and I) caught more bull redfish while fishing for flounder. We use a 2 OZ white buck-tail with a 3”-4” Gulp Swimming mullet. So, my flounder rig leader is 40# test mono (changed from 20# test mono), and the main line is at least 40# test braided. I guess, I can’t claim that we aren’t really targeting the bull redfish because we know we will hook bull redfish while catching dinner fish.

I caught many puppy drums (redfish) on shrimp in many different waters. In October, at CBBT, I caught many puppy drums on shrimp while fishing for tautog. But this was the first time I caught a bull red on shrimp.

This September I hooked 4 bull redfish. Three broke the leader.

Anyway,
I put 4 bull redfish (caught by 4 kayakers) on the video. I also added some other species because they are also available in September.

The pilings where the majority of Bull red hook ups I witnessed were at/around the tog pilings.

Excellent, Joe. I had hoped to get down there myself this past month, but it just never worked off with work and wind.

Sounds like they are starting the second tunnel construction now too. Think it'll effect the fishing out at the 1st island?
