  • Still Exploring New Sheep Spots

I twice tried for sheepshead around Chincoteague again earlier this week. Both trips were like my last trip, just a quick couple hours in the late afternoon and evening as I killed some time before I had to go back to work after dark.

The tidal coefficient was low this week which made for fairly easy fishing around the structure, but didn't help with the bite. The fished were either reluctant to hit or I just couldn't find the right structure they were hiding on. It was like the complete opposite of my last trip. I ended up grinding out a single 20" sheepshead between both trips. I set the hook on a second one but dropped it. After I dropped the fish, I was able to get it to hit twice more - both swings and misses for me - before it quit feeding.

I also picked up a 16" tog and two fat toads. Otherwise, it was very, very slow. The black wills showed up this time too and had no problem pecking your bait clean.
