I buy live chowder clams, shuck, and cut them into strips. If the trash fish are around (bluefish, black sea bass, etc) it'll be a pain. Usually I resort to clams in the early spring when I can't find fiddlers and it's sometimes difficult to find blue crabs. In the summer and fall, I almost always use fiddlers or mole crabs (sand fleas). If I can't find those I'll use blue crabs or green crabs. Last year was the first time I used green crabs and they worked very well in late fall.

Joe, I'm glad you got to go last year. Learning the tog bite and figuring out the timing is not easy, but very rewarding when you get it. Using chunks of crab will change the timing of when you set the hook compared to using fiddlers.

In Ocean City the #1 bait for tog fishing are the green crabs. Although Pinch caught one on a gulp mullet, most likely cause a crab was trying to eat his gulp. haha
