  • Fish of a lifetime!

If any of you have ever had the desire to catch a musky, I can enthusiastically recommend Sam Scott of Blueridge Musky Fishing https://blueridgemusky.com/. I went out with him this Sunday on the upper James River. The water was cloudy from a reservoir discharge up river, and I only got one bite all day but this fish was worth every penny! 46 inches long and probably pushing 30 lbs according to Sam. She bit a 12 inch Whaletail near the boat, and the fight was utter mayhem as she made a beeline under the boat as soon as she was hooked. Thankfully she came back from under it without snagging the lure on the bottom of the haul, and Sam was able to put her in the net. My first musky and easily my biggest freshwater fish ever!

    Holy cow, Cliff.

What a beast of a fish. And I presume it did not take "10,000 casts" as legend goes.

    Congratulations!

Going out with a guide like Sam definitely shortens the learning curve for you there. I'm planning to try them on my own on the Potomac and Shenandoah this year, and I wouldn't be surprised if it takes me that many to find the next one on my own LOL
