  • Spadefish & Spanish Mackerel at CBBT, VA (08/30/22)

This summer was brutal for me. I have been swamped at work. I couldn't find the time for fishing. Finally, I made a trip to CBBT (Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, VA).
I missed cobia, spadefish and spanish mackerel. Due to the popular demands for spanish Mackerel and spadefish, I limit the target species to spadefish and spanish mackerel. They are also easy to catch.
I found the birds and spanish mac early in the morning. I found small spadefish quickly. But, I had a hard time to find decent size spadefish at over 12".
Though eventually I found spadefish at 12-14".

    Fishing log:

    Thanks
    Joe

Nice to see you are getting out Joe! How do you cook the macs and spade fish?

Besides ceviche (Spanish Mac) and sashimi (Spadefish)

The following link (1 min video) is what I do the most of time. sometimes, I add heavy cream and caper to the recipe.

Of course, I didn't fish for it. I spent 4 hours going through one tenth of pilings to spot cobia. No cobia sighting. I saw sheepies 7' down. And some trophy size sheepies caught by 3 kayakers. Bring stuff for big red drum also if you are into big red drum. They will show up soon, available until mid Oct.

Forgot to mention. I like spanish mac with skin intact. to prevent skin curls, slits on the skin side every 3/4"
