A Trophy Tautog & More, Mar 19, 2025, Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, VA

It was another, but very rare, calm day this winter.

The water temp at 48-49 F was perfect.
There won’t be many toadfish. But there is a good possibility of a trophy tautog in VA.
The currents were supposed to be very mild for kayak-tautog fishing at CBBT.

There were 2 fishermen, a boater and me.
I caught 2 toadfish and 11 tautog. 4 of 11 tautog were keepers at 16, 18, 19, and 23.75” (trophy)

Congrats on the trophy tog! I'd love to hook into one that big inshore one day.

If we get a weather window next week I'm hoping to take a day off from work to try in OC for the first time this year.

Fishing has been great regardless the results. The results are about the same for decades. Though, I completely gave up striper fishing for few years because I heard the bad results of striper fishing in MD for few years (with restriction).
What strikes me is that I haven't been seeing many kayak, bank, pier and boat anglers for years. the number of anglers dropped by 60-70% for years. I hope this change soon.
I wish I see more fishing reports....
