No tautog fishing for a while due to the strong winds.
Anyway, I fish for shad once a year. I found that regardless of water and air temp, the buds of dogwood tree flowers and the blooms of the flowers were the best indicators for shad fishing.
When I saw the beginning stage of opening of the buds, I knew some shad were already in Occoquan, VA. So, I don’t fish for shad when I don’t see the opening of some buds.
In a few days after that, 5-7 days later, shads arrive at Occoquan in full force. Then shads stay for about 4 weeks.
On Apr 3rd, the day before the fishing I saw flower buds on a dogwood tree in my community.
The buds on the video indicate that some shad are definitely in Occoquan, va.
It rained a lot and it was windy before the launch and it rained a few times. So, I wore clothes properly. I landed 11 for 4.5 hours.
Shad will be in full force around April 7-8th.
Fishing Log:
Thanks
