  • Potomac Snakehead 5/23/2025

I fished Aquia Creek this morning from 6:30-10:30 for snakehead.

I was debating on going with the recent rain and drop in water temperature. Water temp was around 68f in the morning and very stained. The water level was high even with it being low tide in the morning.

I fished the first hour with topwater with no bites and decided to switch to a small curly tail grub on a 1/0 underspin swim bait hook.

That seemed to be the ticket and I quickly landed two bass. Not long after I landed the last fish of the day for me with a ~26” snakehead! Funnily enough I think it picked up my bait while messing around with a wind knot.

All fish were caught in 1-3’ of water and I lost a couple of fish today due to what I assume was too light of a hook set and will need to try and work on that.

Moral of the story for me is to do less planning and do more fishing, even if current conditions are unknown.

That is my attitude anymore. I go when the I have the opportunity, because if I don't I might not have the chance again for another week or two.
