Doing a float trip tomorrow on the South Fork of the Shenandoah from Bealers Ferry to Bentonville Landing. Never fished there before. Any tips on lure selection?
Thanks,
Bruce
use to float that quite a bit back in the early 90's. Always a good time and I hear the fish are making a good comeback after a couple of years where they had massive fish kills several years back. We used 1/8 oz jig heads with 2" grubs in White or just about any color seemed to work, lots of Redbreasted sunfish. Best for the smallies was to wade in shallow water and pick up yourself half a dozen madtoms and hook those baby's up and hang on for the bite. You can't buy the madtoms and have to collect them, also you will find plenty of Hellgrammites under the rocks as well, also a great bait to throw at them. Live minnows always good choice if you go the live bait route.
If you stay after the sun sets, try a mini buzz bait in Black in the deeper pools. Good luck, what a beautiful place to fish.
