Another day on my quest for the fearsome Snakehead. I heard about Pohick bay is quite good so I gave it a try today and it paid off. I start out around 4-5pm. It looked like it was low tide, no boat around and I was the only one there. I went to the mouth of the creek and start fishing, first one was a fat ass bass, I meant it was really fat. As I continue I keep hooking up bass, I hate another bass fest. So instead randomly casting the line, I look around the water. Luckily, there is no wind so I start looking for bubbles. Snakeheads tends to give up their location when I come up for air. After a while I saw one came up for air, I cast the line further away from the spot and start reeling it back. As soon as I went pass the bubbles spot, I felt it hit my lures, very distinctive, very strong strike. As I reeled it in, I kept telling myself it better be the freaking Snakehead. And it is one fat one 7 1/2 lbs Potomac Steelhead. I did not bring my net with me (very bad idea) but I have my bat. I had to hit it 3 times on the head to stun it. It was hard getting it in the kayak, unhooked, take picture and throw it in the cooler. Then I continued looking for more bubbles, I got more strikes but fail at setting the hooks. So, now I need your help on this setting hook. I will post a picture of how I rigged my lure. I used swim bait and rigged it weedless. People say that I need to wait a little before I set the hook. I did wait but I think the fish spit it out, maybe I wait too long? So, I tried to set the hook as soon as I feel a strike and I don't always success. So I ended up with just 1 fat Snakehead.

I hit it 3 times with the aluminum angler bat, so I can bring it in. It didn't die, I'm sure you could kill it with a bat but I didn't.

Turn left at boat launch. The whole area is quite shallow, so they are everywhere. I see a lot of bass though, a lot.

You have to hit them behind the skull. Since the bone in their head is REALLY hard, it won't do anything to the fish. But if you hit the spine right behind the head then it'll die. I'm still looking into if this is the easiest way to bring a SH onto a yak.Originally posted by Snakehead Hunter View PostI hit it 3 times with the aluminum angler bat, so I can bring it in.
