I use top water frog too but I'm bad at setting hook on that. I keep yanking the frog out of the fish mouth.

Yea man. I wish I don't have to fish so hard to bring some Snakehead home.

Well, I went to Pohick Bay today for the first time and fished those lilly pads you mentioned, only caught 2 bass but it sure was exciting. Fish everywhere were feeding and lots of loud, topwater blow ups. I did see some nice sized snakehead and even longnose gar swimming right past me in the shallows, very cool! A fellow kayaker said wait until the tide goes out, you will hear the big grass carp getting stuck in the shallow water... sure enough they were swimming around like crazy and even slapped my kayak as they swam under.

It was my first time out on the Potomac in my new yak and it's so much more exciting than fishing the public lakes. I had a blast just exploring but I will need to figure out how to put more fish in the yak next time.

            Hi there,

I am just wondering what kind of setup you are using, I lost a snakehead the other day, and I think my setup, which is a ML 7", maybe just too soft to set hook. Once it is hooked, this dumb fish is sitting there, wont fight at all.

Also, what is the weight on the hook itself, 1/8oz or 1/4oz ?

            Thanks.

I would use a Medium or Medium Heavy for snakehead as they have a rockhard jaw and you need to get a good hookset.
