left Thursday at 2, bad timing on the 95 corridor. Then an accident on 64 @ Williamsburg slowed us way down, so we stop for bbq @ Pierce's. Then came the rain, heavy downpour. Made it into the campground by 7, dropped trailer and headed to the Sunset hotel. 3 kids and wife in tow were not going to set up the tents in the rain, so I made the call, and the hotel room for 70.00 bucks was well spent because the next night, Friday, they were rolling over to their summer time rates. Had a trailer w/4 yaks and nobody wanted to go out Friday, windy, chilly and drizzling, Sat was sunny but still chilly and real windy. A buddy and his family came in Sat afternoon and we planned to fish Sunday. Pushed off to the ships and jumped in line drifting along with several other kayaks and a couple of boats. We caught only one small croaker and a crab somehow latched onto my jig while drifting. We did see another yaker pull up a 22 inch flattie and then a 19"er. Forgot to mention that Friday, there was an accident in the tunnel. One of the park staff rangers was hit in the tunnel and we had campers pulling in after a 6 hr backup. Ranger was apparently ok. Took the family up to Stingrays for lunch, they had listed, a Toad Fish Sandwhich on the menu, just couldn't pull the trigger on that one. Kids caught a load of crabs back at the pier which we had later that night for dinner. Came home Monday and ran into traffic, took all night to put the kitchen sink back in my kitchen, did I mention that my wife was with me. What is it about the women folk having to pack so much crap that we loaded a Yukon and a 4x8 trailer down to where we were dragging our knuckles on the pavement. Always a good time camping even when you don't get much time on the water. Looking forward to a good summer of fishing though. Always good to get on line and hear what everyone has been catching and I always appreciate the tips from others on this forum.
