  • Rudee Inlet 6/16/13 Sun

Was on the water 0700 hrs. Nice day, but a bit breezy at times. Met HokieDJ on the water, and we jigged along the edges, along the docks and down to outside the Inlet.

Jigged a bucktail and plastic (twister tail, Gulp, BKD), and caught a short 17" puppy drum, many short flounder and a keeper 17" flounder.

The thing that surprised me was the choice of lures. On a double lure set-up I had a 6" chartruese BKD on a jighead on the bottom and a white Gulp mullet on the top. With all the ravings about Gulp, I thought the Gulp would be the clear choice. I caught two short flounder on the BKD. Duh, plain jane plastic does it again.......or maybe color had something to do with it.

Anyway, it was a good day for yaking.

Fished all over rudee and the area where the rich houses were and only managed a few short flounders. Went out to the inlet waiting for the incoming tide with Tufnik but then the winds kicked up when the tides changed. It blew us out while the tide was coming in but I still managed to catch lots of shorties and a slot size Red at 18". At one point, one of the guys at the rail started throwing at the area I was at. It landed about 10 feet from me.

I tried chartreuse, white, and pink gulp. It looked like Pink was the hot color and it was the on teaser. The green/chart Zman twister tail proved again, nothing bites it.

No. Good thing because the wind already picked up early in the morning.

Very nice. How were you working the bucktail and plastic on the double rig, bouncing along as you retrieved or vertical jigging?

Both, but I did about 80% vertical jigging.

                    - If it ain't pink, your catchin' will stink
                    - If it ain't blue, you're gettin' a few
                    - If it ain't black, it's pullage you'll lack
                    - If it's green, you're a fishin' machine
                    Your turn.
