  • New member, first post with hrbt and back river report

Hello everyone. Been lurking and reading reports for a while here. This is about my sixth year kayak fishing. I'm mostly into saltwater, but I occasionally hit up fresh. VA beach area is where I like to fish most. Before it gets too cold, I'm hoping to try and get over to the bay in MD...possibly the bay bridge area or somewhere around there.

This past weekend, I got to fish back river from Wallace's on 10/5 (my first time at this spot). Only caught a few small croakers and a spot to use for bait. On 10/6, I launched from the Hampton side of the HRBT and caught about a dozen small croakers, bunch of black sea bass, a puffer, a 17 inch speck, and a nice 21 inch speck (my personal best). Weather was awesome both days.

Welcome aboard. Are you doing the 95/64 haul, traveling from Fairfax?

Thanks for the welcomes. I go 95/64 usually, but sometimes I do 17. Less stress from the amazing drivers of 95 and more scenic. My brother lives in Ghent area of Norfolk, so free place to stay and tons of fishing spots to choose from within close proximity.

Would definitely like to meet up with other yak fishers--part of the reason I joined. For one thing, I do plan on doing more trips even when the weathers turns cold and would like to have somebody else around in case something goes bad.

I'm thinking about heading over to Md Sunday, probably Piney Point. If anybody wants to meet up, let me know.

            John,

If I get the pass from the warden, I'm definitely making a trip down to St Mary's. I've always wanted to fish Piney Point. Windfinder is calling for some decent wind so might be a good workout

Thanks. Would be great to see others out there.

Great link Justin. I only checked accuweather and saw 6-10. Your link says it will be considerably more windy. Have to keep an eye on it. Might still be doable. Hoping for a bigger speck than my last trip. Just ordered a new reel and a few other things, hope they get here before the weekend.

Thanks again for the welcomes. Despite the light rain and wind in the forecast, I am going to head out there in the am and fish the outgoing tide tomorrow after all. Sorry for not posting sooner...weather has not been looking good and been really busy. If any of you actually end up heading out there, I'll be in a red ride 135.

What time are you getting there? Do you plan to troll or jig primarily?

Hopefully around 9 or 10. Not sure how long it will take me to get there. Hoping for a little over 90 minutes on a Sunday morning. I will troll a little bit, but will be jigging for some bait fish to throw around and troll.
