  • Nor'Easter fishing

Guess I am about the only one crazy enough to go fishing with this week's forecast. However, I had my reservations at Kipto paid in advance, and I have been here since Tues. My wife and another couple came with me so we have been playing cards and eating like kings. However, after three days of the big blow and rain, I just had to get the yak some exercise. The ships were a little too out in the open, and Wise Point is closed because of the govt. shutdown. The wind was blowing out of the N about 14mpg with a good mist mixed in. I decided to try and find a spot on the seaside, and meet up with a waterman who let me launch on private land. I paddled 20 yds from the place i put and saw a swirl. First cast was nailed as it hit the water, and I had a 21.5" red. Circled back around and picked up a 20.5" Pup next time through. Paddled north and picked up a real feisty red that fought harder that his 21" size. The mist was getting harder and I turned back after about an hour, and surprise, surprise, a 16.5" speck hit the trolling popper. I would have never believed I could hook a speck in all that dirty water. The reds all took a red/gold glow paddle tail BA, and the speck hit a black speckled/char. curly tail. This day taught me that fish still have to eat in bad conditions. I will be back out tomorrow on the bayside.

Not sure I will be fishing the ships, but I will drop down there in hopes of catching up with you. FYI, there has been a large crane barge anchored inside the center group of concrete ships. It took shelter from the storm there (think it was working on the CBBT). Hope it moves out tomorrow for you, think it might be in a prime tog spot.

Nice going Gary. I'm glad you got the trout and reds. I got one small red and more than 25 specs today fishing in Tampa. We had flat calm seas, clear water, blue skies, and mid-80s temps.
