  • Snagging Potomac Blue Cats – Nov 20, 2013

I fished for stripers (launched from Pohick Bay regional park) in the morning before the work. This was the first time I fished the mouth of the Pohick Bay, Potomac River.
I found schools of unidentified fish in the deepest parts of the area in 35-38' of water

    Fish like there's no tomorrow.

Cool video. I've never caught a blue catfish yet. I've also never used a verticle jig like those before.

kudos on the video. thanks for sharing. That Lowrance X4 gives some nice signals for a small unit...I have a similar small unit Humminbird Piranha 4.

Wow. Those cats must be thick down there for you to snag so many.
        Nice looking fish.

I think they were thick. It was the first time I found I could snag blue cat.
Some thought that I was intentionally snagging blue cats. Nope! I was after stripers. I don't fish for catfish and bass. I kept moving each time I snagged a blue cat to find striper. I drifted/moved about 2 miles, but all I caught were blue cats

The reason fish reading was clear was that there were no bait fish in the area.
I used several $80-100 unit and had no issues in fish reading. I set sensibility to manual, 90% in Potomac River, Chesapeake Bay, CHSP, and lake Anna. 85-90% sensibility on these cheap unit gave me clear fish reading in the murky water

HokieDJ gave me a color FF. I installed on an Outback. I will see how it works next time I fish
