  • CBBT/ Elizabeth River 12/21/13 FISH!

Despite the bleak wind forecast Grilled and I made the trek down to CBBT. Our main goal was to get on some Tog and then go for Speck once the sun had set. We decided to target debris fields in deeper water near where I had found the tog last week. It turned out to be a beautiful day with light south winds and 65-70 degree air temp. The Surface water temp was around 49 which was 3 degrees warmer than last week in the area we fished. Baits of the day where hermit crab and blue crab. The Tog did not seem very interested in shrimp. Grilled and I ended up with our 2 man limit of Tog to 22'' (Grilled caught the biggest tog of the day and the biggest trout of the night).
The trout bite which has been extremely productive recently and reliable was almost non existent last night. We still managed to pick up a few but we had to work for them. Grilled's Biggest trout went 23.5''. Below are a few pictures from the adventure, I need to sit down and edit the video.

Haven't heard of any tog at kipto recently, I tried 2 weeks ago and they were not biting.

Nice work guys. You are definitely hardy to do a day/night doubleheader.

Nice work on the tog! Ended up being a beautiful day on the east side of the bridge yesterday too... just minus anything looking for eels.

Nice fish. I thought they were gone, but the togs are still there....they're just picky. BTW, that filter sure gives your pics a "different" and interesting effect. Thanks for the report.

I like the filter the camera is fun to play around with. "Thanks"

Pinch....been watching your progress on Kayak wars, ...That is a lot of quality fish. SO I wa wondering, from the kayak, of the 474 quality fish you caught this year (a lifetime of quality fish for many fishermen), do 3 or 4 stand out as particularly memorable? If so, it would be great to hear why those certain fish stand out.

This reminds me of when I was a SeaBee on sea duty at Diego Garcia in 1973. There were hermit crabs all over the beaches. They reminded me of grass shrimp, only larger. So being a kid from the Chesapeake, I cracked open the shell and threaded one onto a larger hook and cast it out. To my surprise, the bonefish loved hermit crab, as did most of the other fish that were on the reef flat. We would catch the hell out of bonefish. When I first got to Diego, being from Maryland, I didn't even know what a bonefish was. It was only later, that I realized we were catching world class bonefish. At that time Diego Garcia was a remote island, with only a battalion of SeaBees building a communication station.

Glad to see your headboat hasn't abandoned you. I'd hate to see you get lonely out there.
