  • 7 Specks, 1 Flounder and 1 Red in Elizabeth River and Rudee Inlet (Apr 5, 2014)

After catching multiple skunks, I decided to fish for some easy targets.
I landed 7 specks (mostly @22-23 inches) in Elizabeth River
I went Rudee in the late afternoon. I landed a 19.5 inch flounder. This was a pleasant surprise. I finally landed one red @20 inches at night

Nice catches, Joe. Yeah, that flattie catch seems a bit early. I should be yak fishing again soon.

BTW, curious to know if you take home fish from ER. I heard the water there is fairly polluted, and taking home fish is not a good practice.

        Thanks for another great video.
Heading to Bethany Beach in 2 weeks and hoping to get to Rudee shortly after that.
Do you ever fish near crows nest?

I hope the flounder bite is good this year because that's all I'm going to focus on. I miss me some deep fried flounder.

Very nice. Your vid is getting me excited about heading back down that way soon. Might go this weekend if weather is good. Have not been fishing for almost 4 months now...getting to be about that time. I just have to get used to hauling the yak on my new smaller but much nicer pickup (supposed to get up to 22mpg on highway, can't wait to see how it actually does).

I also think ER is still very polluted, but I have eaten fish from there occasionally. I don't think a few here and there is going to hurt you, but I believe they recommend no more than two meals per month. http://www.vdh.virginia.gov/Epidemio...JamesRiver.htm

Also, I'm sure you guys are already aware but speck "Season is closed March 1, 2014 through July 31, 2014".

I second that! I'm hoping to hit CHSP more this year.

Question about water quality... Since specks migrate (as I understand it) how much would they be affected by the local water quality?

They eat the bait fish that stay there and build up the toxins.
