camping at cherrystone campground in August and taking the yak with me!!! im stoked! i havent been to cherrystone in about 5 years, and i have alot of childhood memories there! hows the fishing been around that area ? I read a fishing report from hutch earlier today, but was curious as to if any kayakers have been catching anything! mostly around the cherrystone inlet and cape Charles area.

There is always something to catch on the ESVA. They'll be flounder, croaker, and sea mullet around kiptopeake at that time. You can also find some puppy drum in some of the bayside inlets and creeks. I would suggest searching the Virginia forum dating back to the last August and years prior. You can also search sites like tidalfish.com to get an idea of what was biting last year. Chris's Bait and Tackle (just north of Cape Charles) is also a good resource to get semi up to date information.

If you get a good day weather-wise, you could drift the area from buoy 36A to Cherrystone Reef. Some really nice flounder are caught in that whole area.

It's called OpenCPN 3.2.2, a free, open source chartplotter and GPS navigation software. It is really cool and helpful. It also has accurate tide and current info. It can be downloaded here: http://opencpn.org/ocpn/download

You have to download the NOAA raster (RNC) charts into a directory that you specify in the settings. The charts can be downloaded at http://www.charts.noaa.gov/RNCs/RNCsIndv.shtml or http://www.charts.noaa.gov/Interacti...log/nrnc.shtml
