  • 4 species at Wheatley

Though it was so windy I had to troll flies much of the time I was happy to have a pretty productive day on Wheatley reservoir today. LMB on kreelex minnows got the day started but as it got cloudy I switched to a modified kreelex which had craft fur rather than gold flash on the top. I even caught a nice trout on a #14 tellico nymph innovation!Go soft hackle!
    The day's total
    3 trout
    6 LMB
    3crappie
    1 feisty bluegill

Those panfish look like they could beat their sport fish brothers in a street fight. Is fly trolling really fly fishing?

I was wondering where you were catching trout on the fly from a kayak.

      Good show.

Sure it is! Of course in this case it was the only option due to wind

Yeah, Moc and I had company Saturday, too...176 acre lake is pretty easy to fill up...

Hate for someone to go there thinking they’ll see a good sized lake. Wheatley is only 69 acres, the whole park is 180. Very easy to get congested.

One of the things I like about the Eastern Shore is the number of ponds to fish.

This link to the DE DNR may be helpful to some looking for small water fishing sites:

                  https://dnrec.alpha.delaware.gov/fis...fishing-ponds/

I most often visit the ponds in Sussex County. There are so many (19) they are never crowded in winter and early spring, especially on weekdays.

                  A common off-season weekday scene -- solitude:
