Thanks Mark. I always use a loop knot when fly fishing.
Here is one of the largest bluegills I caught down in the OBX last week. I've never seen a bluegill/sunfish with this coloration and vertical bars. Anybody know what this is?
That's a really nice sized bluegill. Wish I had caught one like it on Saturday. I don't know what kind it is. Perhaps it's a hybrid.
jonthoen -- A loop knot allows you to attach a fly or lure without cinching the leader tight to the eye of the hook. It therefore gives the lure or fly a little more movement. In effect it does the same thing as a split ring on a crankbait. It creates a freer moving target for fish.
Google "loop knot for fishing" and you'll get many hits with instructions and the rationale for tying it, including videos.
I use it for all my flies and lures.
