  • C&O canal question

Does anyone have experience fishing it? From what I can find the lower portion closest to DC has water again.

It’s been years but the section called Widewater near Potomac contained some fish. I also put in the canal at Pennyfield and would paddle upstream to the bottom of the Seneca breaks where I’d drag my canoe into the Potomac. Didn’t bother fishing that stretch but I’m sure fish were in it. Why fish the canal when the Potomac beckoned.

With how close they are to each other I want to fish both. I’m also chasing carp so there is that.

Catching a C&O Canal or Potomac River carp would be a blast. I have not ventured out that direction yet this year. Hopefully can hit it in August.

Keep in mind that down near Georgetown and up to at least Widewater, long sections of the C&O Canal are dewatered or drastically lowered for varios reason. One of which would be snakehead control. When a section of the canal is rewatered the fish don't automatically reappear.
