Award winning Baltimore Sun columnist Dan Rodricks will be the guest speaker of the Free State Fly Fishers this coming Wednesday evening, 6 November at 7:30 p.m. He will present a slide show about his most recent book, Father’s Day Creek – Fly Fishing, Fatherhood and the Last Best Place on Earth.
Father’s Day Creek is the name Mr. Rodricks has given to a favorite Pennsylvania trout location. His book details how this particular body of water evolved from a site challenged by agricultural runoff, formerly stocked with rainbows and stampeded annually by put and take anglers to a now pristine catch and release stream that is well populated by naturally reproducing brown trout.
A longtime fly angler, Mr. Rodricks details the ecological comeback of Father’s Day Creek in his book. He discusses his love of fishing and his approaches to fly fishing. Perhaps most important, he describes the meaning this Pennsylvania stream has had upon his life. He has written an excellent book and his presentation promises to be very entertaining. Please join us. Here are directions to our Davidsonville clubhouse: http://fs-ff.com/index.php/clubhouse-location/
November’s meeting will be our last public meeting of the year. However, we have lined up an excellent slate of speakers for 2020. They range from club members sharing photos and details of their recent trips (TX Redfish and Chesapeake Cobia) to MD CCA director Dave Sikorski, Capital Gazette columnist Chris Dollar, MD Heroes on the Water director Jim Cooper, MD DNR representatives and other local authors and media personalities with ecological messages to share. Indeed our 2020 speaker schedule promises to be highly interesting. I encourage you to visit. Our meetings are always free to the public.
