  • Quick OBX Trip - More Pond Fishing

Made a very quick weekend trip to the OBX to work on the house. Had some fantastic weather.
Caught a few micro bass on small foam cylinder poppers.

    The sunset was fab.

    Tom,

Very different coloration on that NC bluegill. I wonder if it's environment or a different species than we typically catch here?

Looking back at my bluegill photos from there, most seem the same. Some are darker than others with vertical green stripes on the side. Others are very dark with purple on the face and gills.

        Tom,

I think the ones we catch here with deep orange bellies are as attractive as many tropical fish:

They're strong too. If they grew as large as their LM bass cousins we'd need 8 wt. fly rods to land them.

That last one you posted has the green vertical bars. Yup, I haven't caught any green sunfish in the OBX or really any with bright orange or yellow chests.
