  • Surf Fishing

Headed to Delaware shore for a week Saturday and am going to try some surf fly fishing. My expeditions are low, but want to give it a try. Any suggestion on flies?

Streamers: Lefty's Deceivers, Clousers, Half and Halfs

Maybe some surface poppers if the Stripers or Bluefish are near shore.

Can't say I recall Surf Fly Fishing, Usually either wading flats or fishing open waters. Wind and waves would be a lot to contend with, along with the size of the flies.

    Good luck!

        Good luck John.

You should be able to punch a 9 wt. into to the wind. Keep it low and wade out a bit.

If you're near any rock jetties, use them to get to deeper water and for the structure they offer.

I hope you find some coastal stripers.

        Be careful and have fun.

crab patterns or brown and tan/orange clousers may also be a good idea. There is a club that fishes cape henlopen semi frequently and they usually catch some nice flounder in the flats there and sometimes striper / bluefish / weakfish / croakers as well.
            Used to fish more.

Surf Fly fishing is a lot of fun. I did it on Cape Cod. I actually bought a couple of custom rods that are designed to cast against a 25 mph headwind. Stripersonline has a group of guys that usually meet at the cape at the end of May from England and the USA.

Thanks, don’t think I will make it to the Cape. Just hope I am not getting over my head on this. Have a 9wt rod( borrowed from a friend) so think I will get the fly out some.
