  • Eastern Shore Lake

Visited a small eastern shore lake with Mark Bange this morning. Conditions couldn't have been more perfect: slight fog at 8AM, no wind, cool temps. I was fishing a dropper rig on my 6wt. Was able to catch six small ones, but they sure were showing their colors. None were larger than 7.5", but was fun to catch. My partner didn't fare as well, but it was a good day to be on the water, just not the right time period for hungry fish!

    Very pretty day indeed.

But that did not translate to success for me. I was skunked!

I took this, my only photo of the day:

Turkey vultures circling over my kayak is a bad sign. Clearly, they realized something dead was below -- my fly fishing prowess!

However, I can still cast. I had lots of practice at that today. I put flies on target everywhere I thought fish should be. But the fish simply decided not to honor me with a trip to my boat today.

Makes you appreciate those banner days of epic fishing even more, Mark...we all have been skunked...getting out, trying new waters, beats a day quarantined at home anytime!

This post is worthless without a map, directions, or coordinates!

Seriously, the older I get, the less catching is important,, and the serenity and day on the water or in the woods becomes important.

Shorelines on both sides of pond south of ramp, targeting pads, downed wood and shaded areas under overhanging branches.

Foam poppers, bendbacks and Clousers, each with varied retrieval cadences.

Knock yourself out -- I don't think a cherry bomb would have worked much better that day. It was a perfect setting to enjoy the serenity of kayak fishing without the bother of pesky fish.
