I know some of you on this forum have had the good fortune to tangle with tarpons. One gentleman who posts here has even caught one in his kayak in the Chesapeake.
Imagine catching one on the fly with tippets (leaders) between 8 and 20-pound test. Imagine a fish weighing between 100 and 200 pounds with the world record on a 20-pound test tippet weighing over 200 pounds.
The following book tells the story of the chase for the world record tarpon on the fly:

It tells the story of attempts by fly anglers, primarily in Homosassa, FL in the 1970s for the world record tarpon. It's a study of famous fishing personalities like Ted Williams, Lefty Kreh, Stu Apte, etc. It's a story about money -- it's not a poor man's sport. It's about conservation and the impact of human activity on fish populations. Most of all, it's about perseverance by some anglers to spend their lives trying to catch an elusive fish.
For those of you who like fishing stories, I highly recommend it.
The book was published in 2020. I got a copy through a the Anne Arundel County Public Library which has 6 or 7 copies in circulation.
