  • October Morning

Went to local launch in Eastern Bay this morning for the early morning Striper action. I headed to a spot that was productive before and started throwing my 7wt Intermediate with a Yellow/White Clouser. Quickly I hooked up a 14" along the shoreline.

After a period of time I switch to a floating line with a Green/White Deceiver. After several throws I found this nice 19" Striper. Had a nice tug until it got tired. Had it hook through its tongue. I netted it and after its picture, let it go with a quick recovery.

I tried several more spots, but nothing was happening. Had to deal with a lot of Friday morning crabbers getting their last catch of the season. Seems like they were doing okay from a couple conversations.

It was a fine October warm morning on the water- think things will be changing soon.

Nice catching on the fly, John.

I think you're right. Our "Rocktober" has been delayed by unseasonably warm temps. Maybe the bite will improve during the last two weeks of the month and into November.
