  • Used Spinning Gear-Fished With My Son-Caught Stuff

Over the last 2 weeks my son has been catching some pike. Don't ask me where. He's 23, works a lot of hours, and doesn't have much time to fish. He also works lots of weekends. He was off work on Sunday and he took me to his special location. We fished for about 2.5 hours and caught about 15 fish between us. My son landed 3 northern pike and a bunch of largemouth bass. I had one pike on, but it came off. I caught 6 or 7 largemouth bass. Most of them were under 12 inches. I lost a very big bass that I did a poor hookset on while using a plastic worm. We caught fish on the following lures.

    1. Blue Fox in-line spinner - size 3
    2. Safety pin style spinner with one of John Veil's famous fat sam mullet soft plastics.
    3. Whopper plopper
    4. Curly tail rubber worm that was about 7 inches long.

It's always a lot of fun fishing with my son.

What a great day for you. Hmmm, I recognize a clump of grass in one photo, might have given away the farm.

haha. Yes, you can't be too careful these days! I'm glad the photos concealed things. haha.

It is always a great time when my son wants to spend time with me fishing. I'm glad he likes the outdoors and that he still enjoys fishing. Now that he's "adulting" with a demanding job, he enjoys the stress relief that fishing can provide. So all of that's cool and it's neat he wanted to spend some time with me.

        Nice story and photos.

Everyone angler has a secret spot, or at the least a spot where they have had success that causes them to return to it. The problem is that fish are not clued into our secrets. Whether they're present at a favored location when we are is totally up to them. They move around a lot to meet their needs, not ours. Aside from the fact that humans find secrets hard to keep, secret fishing spots are short-lived at best. Eventually they are revealed only to disappoint anglers who got there at an inopportune time. They are discarded and then rediscovered by others so that the cycle of secrecy continues.

However, in reality the best secret fishing spots are the ones everyone knows. Think about it.
