I'm thinking the cable clam will be the way I go, I just need to figure out which size is appropriate for getting all 3 wires through.
hmm yeah i forgot about those enormous plug ends... i might actually end up getting the thru hull kit for $17.99.
if you look at the instructions for the install, you can see that it comes with multiple sizes of the rubber plugs to choose accordingly to the amount of wires we have.

The Hobie kit still only allows for 2 wires. My Lowrance has a total of 3, so it would take two fittings.

I used the medium cable clam, opening .834", I had to grind it wider to fit the gps plug end through. the gps plug end is very close to 1" wide. If I had to do it over, I would have gotten the large clam with a 1.396 opening. It took a fair amount of backyard calculations to make this work.

man.. i dont know if ill have my FF fully rigged by M&G time gotta wait for this thru hull wiring kit to come in. hopefully it wont take too long.
Mike, do you plan on using the stock mount for the elite 5 or using a RAM ball mount? I am almost positive that i will be using the stock mount cause it seems studier. Do you plan on using backing plate when you mount it?

I don't see any need for a backing plate with a 5" or smaller FF. Maybe with a 7".

I actually have a Ram suction mount that I have used on my old FF. It works great for testing out a permanent mounting location. Depending on where I find to permanently mount I will hopefully just use the stock mount.

                  Mike,

Figured I would give you an update on my mounting. I received the hobie thru hull kit yesterday and started to install my fishfinder. I need another piece to complete my install but figured i would show you what i've done so far.

my kayak came with all those holes in the mold already from an older black and white fishfinder the previous owner had installed. i didnt want to drill any additional holes so i decided to work with what was already drilled.

i will be mounting the fish finder using a scotty 368 universal fishfinder attached to a scotty deck mount on the top 4 holes predrilled holes.
in order to fit the hobie thru hull plug, i had to dremel and make the center hole larger.

in terms of fitting the wiring, it did not seem to be an issue. you just need to put everything together in a sequence.

i havent put the rubber grommet in together with the plug yet but it doesnt seem like it will be much of a problem.

im glad i was able to use one plug instead of two to fit all the wiring in.

Looks great so far. I sort of wish now that I had gone with the Hobie fitting for the solid black color instead of the black and white of the cable clam.

another update while i wait for my scotty 368 universal fishfinder mount to come in the mail...
took the battery bag that was in my ocean kayak prowler 13 out and decided to use it in my tarpon.
it keeps my battery elevated off the ground which is nice.

I like the scotty mount a lot. It feels a lot sturdier than a RAM ball mount. Its also nice because with the deck mount in place, i can use it to attach other accessories when the fishfinder may not be needed.

the bag is mounted using the straps that came in my ocean kayak prowler. i heated up a nail over the stove and punctured a hole into 4 straps. the back two straps are mounted to two of the screws on the bottom of the deck mount and the front two are mounted to the screws on the front cap. ill try to get some pictures of it tonight.
