Not exactly kayak rigging, but I thought some of you might find this interesting. Today was the first time I used this at the ramp. With a full tank (about 8 gallons w/room for air) it lasted a little over 5 mins. Plenty of time to knock the salt off my boat and gear, including myself. I had the regulator set to 30 psi which blasted water over 30’ away, and the compressor cycled 5 times.

    That's neat, John.

I use the garden hose when I get home to spray my boat and gear. Sometimes it takes me 30 minutes to get everything washed and put away.

If I had a pickup I'd consider what you have. It would complete much of the cleanup job before I got home.

I hope your outing was good.

Only thing I caught was a patch of grass and a chill. It’s was a little too windy out, so I didn’t stay long.

I made another one of these that I’ll use for a shower in warmer months. You could easily strap this to your mini van, haha. We’re trading in our Subaru for a mini van this week, as we just added a new family member two weeks ago. I’m really looking forward to driving it. Or even better taking naps on long hauls.

        John,

Congratulations on your new family addition. Congrats also on the minivan. They're not vehicles you think about when you're a teenager, nor during a midlife crisis. (I wanted a Mustang.) But they're very functional for hauling kids and grandkids and they make fantastic fishmobiles. I can carry my kayak on the roof and four fully rigged unbroken 7 to 9 foot rods inside along with all my other gear.

intriguing setup, where-abouts is the airtank located? (i'm assuming the black PVC tank is the water reservoir)

This is my wash down kit.Works for days no pressure need.more than enough pressure for a lot of uses.

The air compressor, all the fittings (there are many), and a 2 gallon aluminum tank are buried between the bedside and fender. The air intake and hose storage are in that one cubby by the hose reel, and the end result goes through the regulator, then into the 50’ hose reel. This setup is completely overboard for just pressurized water, but I use it for airing up tires after off-roading too. It will run any air tools as well, within the limits of the compressor. There are endless uses for compressed air. I think that compressor does around 2.5 cfm with a pressure switch/relay that keeps me between 110/150 psi.

The black tank, which you are correct is good old 6" PVC coated in bed liner, is the water storage. I think it's around 8-9 gallons, but I don't fill it all the way to leave some room for air. The upper tank is slightly more, maybe 9-10 gallons.

This is definitely the way to go for most people wanting something like this. Looking good!

Seems cool, but you give up so much real estate for some water.

I don’t think I really gave up much, the tank hangs over the wheel well a few inches at the most. The entire bed of the truck is wide open, but to each their own. If it really is an issue, the tank comes out in less than a minute.

I use something like Coop46, only his is home made and has a larger container with better output pressure. I found out after I bought mine he makes them for others.

These are definitely cool ways to clean our gear.

This is what I loosely modeled my design from, but this one costs twice as much (not factoring in OBA), holds about 1/3 of the capacity, and does not maintain constant pressure.

                          rail_mount_bundle_v2_ad457a75-31a5-46f8-97d8-b07ef75bb564.jpg

My shower tank is modeled after this one, but again much larger capacity. The RoadShower is aluminum however, and probably warms up a bit faster.

                          sleekdesignlarge.jpg

For what I spent on both of them, I could have only bought one or the other. I know very few of you guys will ever want something like what I put together, but I shared it anyway. My tanks only make sense if you're planning to have OBA system for the other tasks I mentioned before. For the average kayak fisherman the Coop method is the way to go.

John I really like your seetup.

Reminds me of something built for off-road:

These things can quickly get out of hand.
